This season showed us that women are more persistent than men or that they were more successful at their determination to make it to Hollywood. Haley, and Pia joined three previous females and two male Next American Idol hopeful; proving that persistence will make you an American Idol Win or Lose.

Previous season persistent contestants included: Season 6 Chris Richardson, Season 7 Chikezie, Season 7 Lacey Brown, Season 8 Jessica Furney and Season 9 Jessica Cunningham.

Season Ten 2011 was a special and considered by many as the best season to date. This seems to be an unanimous opinion from those fans that I have spoken with. The first reason maybe is that the show focused more time on the truly talented of those who auditioned and less on those who hopefully didn't quit their day jobs or continuing their education.

Another reasons included the fact that the producers shorten the time to widdle down the 300 plus who auditioned to reach the finale 13 to be voted upon by the American viewing audience. This process quickly presented the viewing audience the most talented and most interesting individuals that they wanted to root for.

An additional important consideration was that the contestants were not force to sing out of the genre that they were comfortable. This also allowed the viewing audience to evaluate their favorite contestant as they would continue their musical career after the season's show ended.

More importantly the producers further held true to their word that would work with the artist to improve their performances for episode to episode. And they did, the contestants were not just told what to do, but were given opinions, suggestions, and advise to support them so that you can improve in all areas with each of your stage performances.

Jimmy Lovine stated, we're going to try every week to bring the artist along, really give them some input - and we're going to try to show that. They brought both entertainers as well as producers which included the likes of; Timbaland, Polo, Rodney Jerkins, Rock Mafis, Jim Jonsin, Tricky, Ron Fair, Don Wood, Polow Da Don and Lady Gaga etc.

It will be interesting to follow both Scotty and Lauren especially considering that they have not yet graduated High School. Will they continue on to college or focus on their musical careers. Will they make enough money to become emancipated and turn into Brittney Spears disasters. I hope they both deal better with success.

To date we have six male verses four female Next American Idol. However, in my opinion, I don't think the American Audience prefers males, but I believe more women vote than men and most girls like boys.

Scotty McCreery:

Like all past Next American Idols Scotty had the following in common:

Seriously began singing at an early age
He had more experience performing in front of live audiences than many of the finalist
He plays an instrument, seven of the other Winners also did
Along with Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks Country music was his genre
Scotty, Jordin Sparks and Fantasia were teenagers
He and Kelly Clarkson were the only true amateur performer prior to American Idol
He has the x-factor

All of Season Ten Contestant's Comparison:

Contestants Marketing and Promotion:

In Step Five of The American Idol Book stressed the importance marketing and promoting yourself. On the top of list in marketing and promoting yourself was building a personal website. Along with a personal website Step Five also provides additional recommendations and suggestions.

The American Idol website provided all of the thirteen contestants links to facebook.com, twitter.com, myspace.com, an American Idol friends page and a American Idol webpage. None of these links provided the contestants any real ability to promote themselves to gather votes.

This season only Paul McDonald had a personal website. Paul placed eight in season ten. Did his website help prevent him from dropping out earlier, I believe so. However, combining Paul's ability to stay in the game longer Paul has and continues to use his website to promote his band, his records and his career. Paul is a true Full Time Professional. He didn't become The Next American Idol but did become an American Idol winner. Paul maintains two websites as he remains on the American Idol Tour ( http://www.thepaulmcdonald.com and http://www.thegrandmagnolias.com.)

By the time the season ended all of the other male and female contestants had a webpage at AmericanIdol.com and all except for Ashton Jones had a webpage on wikipedia.org as of August 4, 2011.

Contestant's Post Idol Success:

As for Post Idol Success as of today August 4, 2001. Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Pia Toscana, Hailey Reinhart and James Durbin have received recording contracts.

Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and James Durbin, have released a Wal-Mart Exclusive EP with her highlights from season 10 on American Idol.

Paul McDonald has an established professional career and American Idol will surely increase his popularity.

Aside from Scotty, of all the other male contestants my guess James Durbin and Casey Abrams will go on to establish themselves as unique artist. As Jacob Lusk I believe he will continue with a modest but long career in Gospel and R&B. And for Stefano Longone time will tell depending on his personal perseverance.

As for the balance of the ladies, in my opinion, Pia Toscana will be a superstar. Haley is a seasoned performer and in my opinion she will continue to grow and be quite successful. Naima Adedapo and Tia have live performance experience and are strongly committed to their careers. As for Karan Rodriquez I like to believe she will do well as Latin entertainer. Finally as for Ashton Jones little is known about her pre American Idol debut and I wish her luck.

Season Ten - Scott Cooke McCreery - October 9, 1993

Starting early, Scotty won a singing contest called "Clayton Idol" at the Clayton Harvest Festival in North Carolina. He was also one of 36 finalists in a "Rip the Hallways" contest featuring teenage vocalists. Scotty didn't deny he was a Puerto Rican county singer, "Yes, I'm Puerto Rican," and with a smile stated. "I have a little bit of J.Lo in me."^[1]

Strengths: As a child Scotty loved to impersonate Elvis and began playing a guitar at age ten. He later sang at his high school graduation. His pre-idol experience included performing through out the US singing with the Die Meistersings a vocal ensemble. Up until his sophomore year Scotty sang as a tenor.

Adversities: His right leg is shorter than is left causing his head to tilt. Not true.

Post-American Idol: Scotty received a $250,000 singing advance with Mercury Records of Nashville for his first album. Scotty's coronation song I love You This Big hit the Country billboard charts at # 32, selling over 171,000 in the first week. Along with the top 11, Scotty is touring with the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2011.

Closing Comments: Along with Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Lee Dewyze, Scotty never fell into the bottom 2 or 3 during the season. At age of 17, he is the second youngest Idol winner behind season 6 winner Jordin Sparks.

Closing Comments: His adversities have shaped his unique character, style, warmth and determination to succeed at a career in music.

Season Ten - Jacob Lusk - June 23, 1987

Jacob started singing at the age of four. He grew up performing at church services. While attending the United Faith Community School he was the lead singer in the school choir, plays and other programs.

Post-American Idol: Like most of the contestants, he performed on the Today Show and Live with Regis and Kelly. His future I believe will be his dream in a career in music. How successful is always relative.

Closing Comments: In my opinion, Jacob will shine in the Gospel and R&B.

Season Ten - Casey Abrams - February 12, 1991

As a student at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, Casey studied classical bass instruction, music history, piano, and jazz piano, and learning to write musical scores for films.

Strengths: He is a multi-talented musician. Prior to American Idol he participated in the jazz ensembles and was a music major while attending the University of Colorado in Boulder Colorado.

Weaknesses: Needs an ability to control his growl and take some direction.

Adversities: He suffers from ulcerative colitis, and occasionally requires blood transfusions. This caused him to be hospitalized while on American Idol, but should not prevent his success as an artist.

Post-American Idol: Like most of the contestants, he performed on the Today Show and Live with Regis and Kelly. He is also on the American Idol Tour. My guess he will have a long and successful career.

Closing Comments: He was the lowest vote receiver on the Top 11 result show and became the third finalist to be saved by the judges.

Season Ten - Stefano Longone - February 27, 1989

has been singing and playing the piano since childhood.

Closing Comments: Had a serious accident, being hit by a drunk driver. However, that didn't stop him from later being arrested on a DUI.

Season Ten - Paul McDonald - August 29, 1984

Prior to American Idol, Paul was the lead singer of Hightide Blues band, which has been renamed to The Grand Magnolias. Paul has also produced a limited edition self-titled EP Hightide Blues in 2007. Paul has done a great job of promoting himself on the internet which won several awards. His music received a boost after appearing on American Idol.

Season Ten - Lauren Alaina - November 8, 1994

Prior to American Idol Alaina showed her outgoing personality as a high school cheerleader. She also performed at several local area venues and was the first winner of a youth talent contest. Her talent also extended to song writing.^[1]

Season Ten - Haley Reinhart - September 9, 1990

Haley studied Jazz at the Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. Her live performance experience include a concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland with her high school's jazz bandand later with the college's Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Lab.^[1]

Season Ten - Pia Toscano - October 14, 1988

Prior to American Idol Pia competed in talent shows as early as four years old. Her live performance experience included singing at a local church production of Jesus Christ Superstar at age nine. Her experience continued with performing the National Anthem and other events at school. She continued to pursue her career by attending LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts in New York City were she graduated in 2006. She continued to pursue her career as a singer as wedding singer with the band "Current Affair" while also working as make up artist. ^[1]

Post-American Idol: Like most of the contestants, she performed on the Today Show and Live with Regis and Kelly. Again along with other contestant signed a record contract with Interscope.

Closing Comments: Toscano is a persistent individual who auditioned for Idol four times before making it to Hollywood. She was considered by some to be a frontrunner in the competition. Her elimination came as a shock to judges. Of all the shocking early elimination from competition hers was considered my many as the most shocking. But then came Casey Abrams and James Durbin. ^[1]

Season Ten - Tia Megia - January 30, 1995

Prior to American Idol Tia was a winner in singing competitions. Her live performance experiences include singing the national anthem at various sport events. As early as 13 she appeared on the TV show Showtime at the Apollo.

Closing Comments: Upon lowering the minimum age to 15 years old Megia joins the youngest finalist to ever appear on American Idol. Tia also proved to be a persistent competitor via her appearance on America's Got Talent in 2009, were she was cut in the Top 40 round. ^[1]With such talent and being young, my guess we will see her in the Hollywood round in the future.

Season Ten - Naima Adedapo - October 5, 1984

Prior to American Idol Adedapo was a maintenance worker. She was also a dancer with an Afri-centric dance company, and sings with her husband in a reggae and world beat band. Naima has participated various musical competition and has her own band in the past.

Closing Comments: She was one of the six selected to sing for a wild card. The judges chose three of the six, including Adedapo.^[1]

Season Ten - Karen Rodriquez - March 22, 1989

New York's LaGuardia Arts School as did Pia Toscano. As a freshmen she performed in West Side Story as Maria. Karan a competed in the Puerto Rican talent show Objetivo Fama and finished in seventh place.^[1]
